A date tonight with Walter Sobcek and then She's Gone

Stockholm. The clock is about twenty minutes past seven. I'm sitting alone in front of my computer writing words on the screen. Empty words? I hope not. Looking out the window and see the clouds blowing over the sky. It's going to be a windy night. What does this night have to offer?

In my mind I can refer to what happened earlier today. I remember chatting with Walter Sobcek, you know that mysterious guy from France that in real life are a duo from both France and Germany. My mind is playing games with me. But when I think more of it I also remember that they released 11 tracks last year that told a story about Walter Sobcek who went to America to find his lost girlfriend. Ahh, everything is coming back to me now. That's the true story.

Long time since I last wrote about Walter Sobcek. But what about the chat today?! That was also the true story. He told me he was in town. Staying at a nice hotel in the city. He also told me he had been here for a couple of days. He liked Stockholm, he said. I like Stockholm too. It's hard not to fall in love with this city. He said it would be fun to meet up later tonight. I got his phone number and he got mine. Maybe I could buy this French guy a beer or two.

Until the rest of the story is completed. I must listen to a great cover once again that Walter Sobcek did. Do you remember Hall & Oates? They had a song back in days. "She's Gone". Now it lives again. All thanks to Walter Sobcek.

Walter Sobcek - She's Gone

I also want to do Walter Sobcek a favour. Since it was a while I wrote about him (them). And since I missed out posting these fine remixes. Here you go Walter Sobcek. Hope you be happier now. And hopefully we meet tonight...

Chromeo: "Don't Turn The Lights On" video + "Night by Night" remix collection

Yep, that Chromeo is on their way with their third studio album "Business Casual" isn't news to anyone in the blogosphere any longer I suppose. This video is kind of new though for their second single "Don't Turn The Lights On":

Chromeo - Don't Turn The Lights On

Since Chromeo released their first single "Night by Night" there have been like one million remixes out there. Instead of you going to one million places to get them I've collected those remixes that I've picked up along my way. It's amazingly many of the remixes that are great, but so far are my favourites Dumme Jungs, Kill Them With Color, Digikid84, Redial, Midnight Conspiracy, Mike Weez and the Boys Noize edit of Siriousmo. Enjoy 80 minutes of listening to the same track in different versions :)

Paul and his new project Mindwalk

Paul (the man to the right in the picture) got a new track for the summer, it's called "More Than a Feelin'". Maybe you will recognize the chorus that is a sample from the classic Boston track with the same name from 1976. It was actually named the 39th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. Paul makes this track in his own way and puts it into the perfect summer vibe when the sun is rising over the crowded dance floor.

Paul - More Than a Feelin'

Then Paul got this new project together with his old friend Pete Herrs (the man to the left in the picture) named Mindwalk. They call the style for Newpop and it's quite more mellow than Paul's other stuff. We at Tracasseur like it, and hope to hear more from this new dynamic duo.

Freedom or Death, not a difficult choice when you can have them both

A new great band have been found. Once again from Toronto as our new favourites Young Empires. There's a lot of great music coming from Canada right now. With acts like FM Attack, Chauffeur, Lazercat and above mentioned Young Empires and my favourites Le Matos (soon to release a new album) Canada can be proud. If Australia was last year's music country, I'll have to say that Canada may be this year's.

The name of the band; Freedom Or Death. Two guys who released their first self-titled EP in June. They've been in the Canadian music industry for over ten years but wanted to leave the major labels so they instead could focus on the music as they wanted themselves. They refer to their songs as children and they were raised to be the best they could be on their own. Freedom Or Death didn't worry about how the songs/children fitted together, therefore their sound is a mix of genres from electronica, indie rock to folk.

Start by checking out this fine video for "This Crowded Room":

And then take a listen to the children below and then head over to your iTunes Store and buy the rest of the great EP.

Alexis Taylor + Steve Mason

Got this remix by Hot Chip member Alexis Taylor of Steve Mason's "Am I Just a Man". Steve Mason is the former lead singer and guitarist in The Beta Band (1996–2004). They played what people said to be some kind of "folktronica" and they were experimental. They received cult status in the underground scene.

Steve Mason is now going solo in his own name, he released own material before but under aliases such as King Biscuit Time and Black Affair, both was largely electronic based projects. Steve's new record is not that far from the sound they had with The Beta Band back in the days and he has gone back more to basics.

"Am I Just a Man" is the new Steve Mason single from the record "Boys Outside" that was released in May earlier this year. Alexis Taylor who also released a solo album in 2008 now got his hands of the song and has come up with quite a different remix that reminds me of some older Radiohead material that has flown back to the 60s or 70s.

Steve Mason - Am I Just a Man (Alexis Taylor Remix)

And as a bonus, here are two fine tracks from Alexis Taylor's solo album "Rubbed Out". It was a slower record compared with Hot Chip with ballads and sounds. Experimental, if we can use that word again, but you can feel the Hot Chip spirit in the tracks anyhow. If you had combined the tracks with more beats and synths it would almost be Hot Chip. "I'm Not A Robber" is the track from the album that are most Hot Chip.

Swedish Rosanna

Rosanna may be from Sweden, she may have quite a similar voice of Robyn and she may have the first two letters in her name the same as above mentioned Robyn. But she's not our new Robyn, she's unique of her own and has been around for a while.

She was a member in the Swedish girl-group Play only at the age of thirteen touring the states with Destiny's Child. She has also been a part of Kocky's debut album "Kingdom Came" back in 2007 that was a huge success.

And now she's back with some new fresh tunes of her own at the age of 22. Her single Waterfall/Runaway are to be released August 22 on the newly founded label Popjustice Hi-Fi. Here is the original "Waterfall" track streamed from Soundcloud.

Waterfall by popjusticehifi

We also have remixes for both the tracks from the release. "Waterfall" is awesomely remixed by our very good UK friend Fear of Tigers and "Runaway" is nicely remixed by the Swedish duo Rocket Boy.

Take a look at this nice video when Rosanna performs "Waterfall" live unplugged with the music collective Teknologgatan.

And finally as a bonus, here is "Tricks" from Kocky's album where Rosanna featured.

I should Start, but LBCK do it better.

I should get started because I must clean the apartment and prepare a dinner for a friend of mine. But I felt that I just have to share this excellent video (thanks Adi) with you before dinnertime. So, Start with LBCK (Long Beach City Kids) for you with a colourful and splendid video. Bon appetit!

ODahl + kamp! once again

Once again these two join forces. Swedish talent ODahl makes a new remix of the upcoming and superb Polish band kamp!, that are said to be the Polish Cut Copy. ODahl made a fine remix of kamp!'s "Breaking a Ghost's Heart" back in November last year, you can find the remix together with the original here.

In May we wrote about kamp!'s new single "Heats" and since then we've got a couple of remixes. But it wasn't until we got this Tracasseur exclusive from ODahl that we really felt it was time to make the post. ODahl works with these fine nuances in his remixes and that what's so great with him. We can also reveal that we've heard that ODahl is up for some more shortly...

kamp! - Heats (ODahl Remix) [Tracasseur exclusive]

Ok, then I can already tell you that I was lying a little above. We got this remix from Polish Last Robots last week, and it's also great in another kind of way and it's been on the list for posting, but the pipeline for posts right now is kind of crowded.

kamp! - Heats (Last Robots Remix)

The Zambon 82' remix is not a stupid one either. Zambon is also from Poland by the way.

Preview the soundtrack for Tron Legacy by Daft Punk

That Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk are the creators of the soundtrack music to Tron Legacy (premiere December 17, 2010) haven't really been any news to anyone for a long time. But there have been fake tracks out there claiming being part of the soundtrack to the follow-up of classic Tron from 1982. These tracks below are confirmed as being on the official Tron Legacy site.

Thanks to our friends over at Hypetrak for the tip and the music.

Also watch the official trailer to Tron Legacy:

Preview new track from Miami Horror

Melbourne based Miami Horror are about to release their debut album "Illumination" August 20. After a couple of years with great tracks and remixes it's finally time for the debut with a full-length album. One of the more eagerly awaited releases of 2010.

You can pre-order the album here and receive the bonus CD with a lot of great remixes from Fred Falke, Treasure Fingers, Yacht, Punks Jump Up, Baby Monster and G.L.O.V.E.S.

Right now you can also pre-listen to their new single "I Look to You" featuring Kimbra at their MySpace, Facebook or site. It's set to be released July 30 and it got the flavour of sweet 70s disco. Miami Horror move smoothly between the 70s, 80s and today with the inspiration, from 70s outer space movies to today's indie pop music.

Here are three other tracks that are going to be featured on the album. "Moon Theory" and "Sometimes" have been floating around for a while and "Sometimes" was even on my colleague Arnie's "Best of 2009" list. "Illumination" is the title track and it's a fantastic epic 70s disco movie track.

Hurts with a Wonderful Life

We've only featured the great new U.K. band Hurts with remixes before by Fred Falke and Jamaica, that's a bit of a shame for us and hurtful. But now we will give you Hurts big time.

Hurts are a preppy duo from the UK consisting of Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson. They make synth pop in a tremendous way. It's beautiful, got soul and it got the big inspiration of the 80s synth era of Depeche Mode and similar bands.

We'll start with their new single "Wonderful Life" that is released on August 23 and will be available digitally, on CD and vinyl. The track has been floating around in cyberspace for quite a while, but not in high quality, so I suggest you preorder the release. If you order the CD you will get a bonus track named "Affair" that aren't available anywhere else.

Here is the new video shot at Ibiza:

A remix of "Wonderful Life" by electro hip-hop legend Arthur Baker was also featured on Kitsuné 9. My favourite remix is however Freemasons, very good remix.

Face Down Ass Up with TEEN and a remix...

Our friend Amy from TEEN has come up with a new track "Face Down Ass Up" and a new remix of Daft Punk's "Too Long". As always she makes good productions and it's always fun to hear some classic Daft tracks being remixed. Keep up the good work TEEN!

Zayra

Zayra is a Puerto Rican-born singer who was in the 2006 reality television series Rockstar: Supernova. Zayra is more commercial than we use to post here at Tracasseur, but we think her forthcoming album "Baby Likes to Bang" sounds promising. It reminds us of Madonna vs Roisin Murphy and that's not a bad thing.

Her single “V.I.P.” is currently #28 on the Billboard Dance chart and here are two remixes of that track.

Young Empires remix by The FranDiscos

We've gone Young Empires berserk lately. Two posts in a row about a band that we also wrote about only a couple of days ago?! Yep, that's the reality we live in, if you been starstruck.

This was a great remix of "Rain of Gold" that we got from The Frandiscos, who also are from Toronto as Young Empires, that I had to share with you. It's a remix very true to the original but 3.29 into the track there's something more going on that I really like.

Ahhrgh, I wish I was a Londoner right now. Monarchy, one of my favourite bands since they occurred are performing their debut live show in London tonight, and I'm not there. Exclusive track from Pao Pao

Pao Pao is also known as Fredrick Carlsson, returning Tracasseur readers have got to know him before. With the alias Fredrick Carlsson, he's earned a great reputation being a qualitative producer. With this new name Pao Pao he wants to explore his more personal expression instead, doing what's right for the moment. As he told me earlier today: "not music made for the radio".

This new exclusive remix for the hyped Swedish duo Karl X Johan is one of the first Pao Pao productions. But there's also a 2-track EP named "Dörr" that you can download at his MySpace for free and a track made together with Prizes that are named "Liberia". It's the B-side on this Blackbird Blackbird 7" release.

Karl X Johan are a duo consisting of Kalle J and Johan Tuvesson. If you are in to your Swedish electronic history, maybe you will recognize the voice of Karl X Johan. Johan Tuvesson was formerly the singer in the great duo Nicolas Makelberge, listen to their masterpiece "Dying In Africa" here.

But here is the new Tracasseur exclusive synthpop remix of "Flames" along with the original track. Enjoy them as much as I do!

It's ¡BORRACHO! time

The ¡BORRACHO! guys are in with some more stuff. They've been remixing commercial artists such as Usher, Gwen Stefani, Fat Joe and Lil Wayne earlier in a superb way. It's harder to remix a commercial hit rather than to find a great tune from an unknown indie band. But ¡BORRACHO! have also remixed acts with great indie reputation such as Cavaliers of Fun and I'm Not A Band, but now it's time to go back in the history...

We must go back to autumn 1977 to find "Black Betty" with Ram Jam. But the original song goes way back longer than so, it's actually a 20th century African-American work song from the beginning. Many artists have covered this track and there were a couple of remixes floating around in the 90s to "Black Betty". But I have to say that ¡BORRACHO! takes good care of a classic tune, once again splendid work by them.

Ram Jam - Black Betty (¡BORRACHO! Remixx)

They also want to share their latest mixtape with you guys, a sweet danceable mixtape for the next party where the track mentioned above is included.

¡BORRACHO! - July 2010 Mixx-Tech

We got this mixtape the other day from one of our faithful readers Emanuel Danneman from our hometown Stockholm. He has put together this mixtape with almost every track taken from Tracasseur, that makes us proud. He also use Monsieur Adi's remix of Ellie Goulding's "Starry Eyed" as his intro track, exactly as we did at our dj-set at the Exit Festival not long ago. Well done!

Vindata remix of Jump Jump Dance Dance

Got an email from Branden in the American duo Vindata yesterday. They've made a fantastic remix of Jump Jump Dance Dance's "Modern Eyes". It was pure love right away. I've heard the remixes that are made of this track earlier of Bit Funk and Beni, they're also great but Vindata takes the track into another level. It's that italo beat thing that I got that soft thing for. Take a listen and decide yourself.

Jump Jump Dance Dance - Modern Eyes (Vindata Remix)

And here's the other two remixes that I wrote about. As mentioned above, also good remixes.

Jump Jump Dance Dance - Modern Eyes (Bit Funk Remix)

Jump Jump Dance Dance - Modern Eyes (Beni Remix)

New Neo Tokyo remix of Chew Lips

Our friend Neo Tokyo from Wales has come up with a new fine remix of Chew Lips' "Slick". The most danceable remix yet of this track. Neo Tokyo always makes great remixes, therefore he's one of our favourite remixers out there.

Chew Lips - Slick (Neo Tokyo Remix)

Chew Lips are a three-piece band from London producing dance pop in a great way. They've just released their debut "Unicorn". Female singer Tig got that voice that reminds you of The Golden Filter, Roisin Murphy or Goldfrapp. Here's "Slick" as original and with the other remixes that exists so far.

Chew Lips - Slick (FC Kahuna Remix)

Chew Lips - Slick (LED Remix)

And as a bonus if you want to know Chew Lips more, here's the video for "Karen" plus the track.

Chauffeur

Driving all the way from Calgary, Canada to pick you up for a ride into his world of music. Chauffeur's world of music goes from darker and harder electro all the way to more pop and the nu disco thing. If you join the ride you will discover that his 5-track debut EP "Streets" is a journey with different directions, and that is a good thing.

We played Chauffeur's track "To Make Her Smile" during our dj-set at Exit Festival last week and we blogged about it the other day. "Streets" is another nice track from the EP with the same name. A track that maybe is the most nu italo flavoured track from the EP. Head over to Juno to buy the whole great debut EP. And keep an eye on your designated driver because there's another EP coming your way soon.

More of Young Empires

The next big thing are about to hit it off for sure. Young Empires from Toronto, who we were one of the first blogs to write about are about to tour in the UK. The Brits should be very happy, because this band got this funky sound that make you move your feet. This is the schedule for the UK tour:

July 27 – Madame JoJo's / White Heat, London
July 29 – Start The Bus, Bristol
July 30 – Koko / Club NME, London
July 31 – Audio / The Recommender, Brighton
August 1 – The Captain's Rest, Glasgow
August 3 – The Flowerpot, London

To celebrate their arrival to the UK they have made a fine remix of British Sunday Girl's "Self Control", a track we wrote about not long ago. Young Empires remix are more mellow than Fenech-Soler's remix and it also suits the track. You can sense the sound that are characteristic for Young Empires. Nice remix!

Sunday Girl - Self Control (Young Empires Remix)

They also got a new track/demo out named "Against the Wall". Ohh it's so good, the perfect track that will get you going this summer.

Young Empires - Against The Wall (Demo)

I also wanted to share an older track that we haven't posted before with you guys so you really can get to know Young Empires. Don't forget to show your love to these three fine gentlemen from Toronto at their MySpace.

Young Empires - Diamond Rings

New track from Cut Copy

A new track from everybody's favourite band Cut Copy. If they were inspired of the 70s and 80s earlier, this track has the flavours of the 60s. Not one of my favourite tracks from Cut Copy, I hope the album that are to be released January 2011 got another vibe than the 60s surf pop.

Summary of Tracasseur at Exit Festival

Tracasseur are back in Sweden after five fantastic days in Novi-Sad in Serbia at the Exit Festival. We're so happy being there, it was a tremendous time with friendly Serbian people, dedicated fans of us, great artists performing and amazing weather.

The summary will of course begin with our own dj-set together with Glasnost Showcase. Our gig was on Friday between 9 to 11 P.M. at the Elektrana Stage driven by the great people of Elektrana. When the sun was setting down the guys of Glasnost Showcase went on stage.

After an hour it was time for Tracasseur to enter the stage, then it was real dark because of the sun went down fast. Smacked with people in front of the stage at that time but after only 15 minutes it was crowded all way back. The audience seemed to have a great time and so did we. We were so into it that we even went in front of the stage after the final track to bow to our amazing audience.

Here is a summary video of the Tracasseur dj-set:

We started out the set in a nu disco feeling to gradual increase the tempo and finished off with more heavier electro stuff. Here are some of the tracks that were in the dj-set:

Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed (Monsieur Adi Remix)

Fever Ray - Triangle Walks (Rex the Dog Remix)

Moguai - Blau

Electrotech Disco - A View From Above (Undog Remix)

Gossip - Heavy Cross (Fred Falke Remix)

Chauffeur - To Make Her Smile

Le Matos - Quiet Earth

Except our own dj-set we went to see a bunch of great acts performing on different stages around the Exit Festival area within the Petrovaradin fortress.

Day 1
The first day we caught LCD Soundsystem, a great show of Chromeo (video below), a not that great show of Crookers and finished of the night with crazy Die Antwoord and Boys Noize. When the sun started rising we caught The Good Guys and Black Rose before we headed home. A great first day of Exit!

Day 2
Second day was the day of our gig, so of course this was the main thing for everybody at the festival. But when we were finished with our set we went to see a fantastic show of Moderat (video below). The night ended with Josh Wink, Ricardo Villalobos and Marko Nastic.

Day 3
On the third day we started at the Elektrana Stage with our Russian friends and favourites Tesla Boy (video below). Amazing gig that were kind of a more heavier, industrial synth sound than usual, that we liked a lot. After their gig we went backstage to have a chat with the guys and it ended up with this fine fan photo. The Twelves from Brazil were the next thing to see after Tesla Boy at the same stage. Great gig, these guys knows how to put together a show. Then we were off to the Fusion Stage to watch the Aussies Midnight Juggernauts who gave us real show to remember. To finish this day and to dance to the sunrise we caught Dirty South and Solomun.

Day 4
The last day at Exit it was time to see the classic duo The Chemical Brothers at Main Stage, crowded and massive. Then we had to run to catch the cool gang of Crystal Castles. Then it was Ed Banger time with Busy P, SebastiAn and A Trak. With that line-up it was the perfect completion of Exit Festival 2010.

Thank you Serbia, Exit, Elektrana and all you great fans out there.
We will definitely be back next year!

Remix competition of PURPL PoP's "The Way"

Tracasseur have the honour to be one of the hosts and judges for PURPL PoP's remix competition of their great debut single "The Way". We wrote about them not long ago if you want to know more about them.

There are five blogs including us hosting the remix competition. PURPL PoP will release "The Way" in September along with remixes from Foamo and some of their favourite producers. On the official release the winner of this remix competition will be included.

You can find the remix parts at Soundcloud and if you want to study the original track you can play the video above.

Either you contribute yourself or maybe you know the perfect remixer out there. However the deadline is set for July 30 and you will send your remix to us: tracasseur@gmail.com. We are looking forward for your entries. Good luck!

French Express vol. 1

Our colleagues over at French Express are running a great blog. The guys over there likes their French-style house as much as you and me, and theirs is one of the blogs I routinely turn to when I need a French touch fix. And it has been since long before we started our own blog.

Now French Express have set up their own label. Except for all the hard work, the step to set up your own label isn't that far-fetched if you run a music blog. You get all this music sent to you from unsigned acts and you already have cut out a musical niche through the blog. So expect more great blogs turning into great labels in the future.

The first release of the new label is aptly named French Express Vol. 1, and is a seven track compilation. It's a great compilation, and what surprised me was the diversity of the tracks, with the French touch and nu italo stuff mixed with more of indie dance tracks. And after the first swift through it was one of those latter tracks that I fell for; Uniforms' second track that made me think of Holy Ghost! or Jamaica. The Swedish duo are true renaissance men, evidenced by their website which is packed with clothing, music, art and film.

Tesla Boy + Toomy Disco

As you know, we love Tesla Boy here at Tracasseur. And I assume you're just as big fans as we are, so you probably know that they have a new album out on Mullet Records. They also released a new single a couple of days ago. Check out the video:

It's a piece of perfect funky electro pop, as expected. Argentinian nu disco maestro Toomy Disco's remix is just as chilled out, but in more of a, well, nu disco way. And it's just as good as the original.

Half-year update

Today is the last day of the first half of 2010. If it wasn't so hot in my apartment I would've come up with an in-depth analysis of the music year so far. But I won't. The summer heat and the World Cup have made me slip into some sort of coma that I need to snap out of before our little Serbia tour and the holiday thereafter.

So what's happened so far? Well, we get more great music than we're able to pass on to you. A lot more. We received our first legal threats that our legal branch managed to wrestle our way out of. That was exciting. Or something. We've downsized by 33 percent. And at the same time all these talented people keep producing these great tracks of which a few recent ones I thought I'd share with you.

The former Belgian duo Aeroplane have also downsized. Vito De Luca announced two weeks ago that Stephen Fasano had left him in charge of their project and that Stephen would go on to work on his own projects. That means that their remix of Breakbot's "Baby I'm Yours" probably is one of their last tracks as a duo. And what a remix it is.

Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours (Aeroplane Remix)

Their mash-up of their own remix of Friendly Fires' "Paris" and Flight Facilities' "I Crave You" isn't half bad either.

Aeroplane - I Crave Paris

I have to say I didn't know what to make of Miami Horror's "Moon Theory". I mean, I'm a great fan of Benjamin Plant's productions and remixes. And I like the type of psychedelia pop/surf electro that Australian colleagues Empire of the Sun made us listen to for basically the whole of last year. Maybe Ben, and the rest of the quartet that Miami Horror turns in to on live gigs, are evolving to more of a straight-up pop band, but I still prefer Punks Jump Up's remix of the song.

Remember Junior Senior's "Move Your Feet"? That one hit wonder from 1998 must've been one of Denmark's biggest international music successes since Tommy Seebach's "Apache". The only thing you can draw from that is that not much good comes from Denmark. I mean, did you see them in the World Cup? Sweden, who the Danes knocked out on the road to South Africa would have done soo much better. The only team who were worse than Denmark were France. And wasn't that an elegant way to peg up this remix by Montpellier's Night Drugs?

Wow, I'm pretty proud of that last paragraph. I'm such a good writer. I'd say I'm at least on the same level as Hemingway (*boom tsss*).

Matt Van Schie - Lady (Hemingway Remix)

I'm real sorry about that, both Matt Van Schie and Hemingway are great producers who deserve all your Myspace love and a large portion of your record buying budget.

Kavinsky's remix contest finished today. Expect a lot of "Nightcall" remixes soon. I hope they're at least half as good as Milanese Broke One's piano anthem.
