Gomma update: The Deadstock 33s & Moullinex

Great stuff coming out from Gomma recently. Well, recently might be a poor choice of words; it's hardly surprising they're releasing great stuff, we've known that for ages, it's just that they're doing it on a weekly basis these days.

Last week Moullinex released his beautiful "Darkest Night" from his "Flora" album as an EP (out now on Discotexas), featuring remixes from Portuguese brother in arms Xinobi and, to complete the Portuguese-German connection, a collab remix by Kris Menace and PWNDTIAC. Oh, and we're playing together with Senhor Moullinex here in Stockholm on Saturday, March 13. If that'll be half as fun as when we played with Xinobi, we're all in for a real treat.

And today Gomma released this baby: house legend Justin Robertson, aka The Deadstock 33s' very retro "Underneath the Pines" featuring remixes by Ewan Pearson and Disco Bloodbath. It all sound very mid-80's acid house, where Pearson was a huge figure in the Manchester scene which was the hub of acid house in Europe in these days, while I have to admit my favourite is Disco Bloodbath's more Chicago-sounding version that sounds like it could've been released on Trax or DJ International in '87. If you haven't already had an acid house phase, and you're the least interested in house music, you should check both of those scenes out.

Penguin Prison + Disco Bloodbath

We posted the excellent Oliver remix of Penguin Prison's "Fair Warning" a couple of weeks ago. Well, I absolutely love Disco Bloodbath's version too! Those weaving synths are coupled with some splendidly funky drums and basslines. The protip is to go to PP's website using the link above to download
the (also great) Dirty Vegas remix too.

Monarchy + Holy Ghost!

We love Monarchy here on Tracasseur. We also love Holy Ghost!, so when they remix the upcoming "Love Get Out Of My Way" single (out July 26), chances are we're going to love the result, huh? Well, we do.

To keep tabs on Monarchy easier, I suggest you sign up to their mailing list.

Speaking of Monarchy and remixes, we like Disco Bloodbath too. We had the opportunity to play with them a couple of months ago, and apart from being great DJs they're really nice guys. Not to mention great producers.

Monarchy - The Phoenix Alive (Disco Bloodbath Dalston Dub)

With the Monarchy track it's 50-50 which version you want to listen to; the shorter, vocal radio edit or the longer instrumental dub version. That's kinda not the case with Monarchy's recent remixes of Kelis. I don't know if she suffered from a cold when she recorded "Acapella", or if she for some inexplicable reason was trying to imitate Nelly Furtado, but I would have wanted a dub version of the extended club remix. But I guess it's a sign of quality that Monarchy manages to make a track I like with those annoying vocals.

Disco Bloodbath in Stockholm

We've been quite busy this week with our new club concept "Rum 401" that I wrote about in the post before this. Therefore we didn't got the proper time to sit down and do some decent posts at the same regularity basis. We're sorry for that but we're also happy because "Rum 401" was a huge success yesterday. Packed with people in the perfect party mode, as Tracasseur djs we couldn't really complain.

Tonight I'm off to catch Disco Bloodbath together with our dj friends Dogs From Redding and Samlingen. Disco Bloodbath is one of the hottest clubs in London. Lately they have also been starting making own stuff along with Ben Rymer and Gucci Soundsystem. They also make fine remixes, here are some of them.

Wolf Gang - Pieces of You (Disco Bloodbath Remix)

White Lies - Farewell To The Fairground (Disco Bloodbath Remix)

The High Wire - The Midnight Bell (Disco Bloodbath Effect)

The Aliens - Sunlamp Show (Disco Bloodbath Remix)

Little Boots - Remedy (Disco Bloodbath Remix)

And we promise to get into the right pace again with the posts...

White Lies remixes

The indie rock band White Lies from the UK has probably released one of the greatest rock albums this year. The album “To Lose My Life” (where you can buy here) was released in January and since then there has been popping up a few remixes especially on their single releases.

White Lies original sound reminds you of The Killers, U2 and Franz Ferdinand with a little darker touch. They have said in an interview with BBC that Talking Heads are a major influence. And you can clearly hear the underground post-punk influences from the 80’s.

The remixes on the other hand are quite different from the original White Lies sound; Haunts remix of “Death” is a really special remix. My absolute favourite is the remix of “Farewell To The Fairground” of Rory Phillips. I’ve been playing that remix a lot of times when flipping records at clubs, it’s a nice one!

And a great extra song from the album with no remixes, yet….
