Lana Del Rey + Moonlight Matters

Speaking of great remixes; how about a meaty disco rework of everyone's favourite indie queen Lana Del Rey by one of our (many) favourite Belgian disco kings, Moonlight Matters? Yeah, I thought so.

Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (Moonlight Matters Remix) (320 kbps)

NIAS + Saint Pauli

Another upcoming remix I really dig is Saint Pauli's remix of Berliner NIAS' single "She Would", out March 23 on Snowhite. So catchy, so funky.

Housse De Racket + Mickey

Really digging the Mickey remix of the upcoming Housse de Racket single "Chateau". Out soon on Kitsuné.

Perseus - Seychelles

That opening track on The Magician's Magic Tape 20 is pretty damn awesome, and it was easy to identify it as the new Perseus track. Perseus' blend of deep house, tropical disco and lovers' R'n'B is pretty unmistakable, and it's hard to decide if you want to dance to it at a club or making out to it on a beach in some exotic paradise. Like the Seychelles for example.

Over 15.000 plays in a little over a day is pretty impressive (It's currently number 5 on the Soundcloud chart), and it's free since we'll "just figure out how to download it anyway" as Leon puts it. Yeah, or clearing that Toni Braxton sample would cost a fortune...

Jonas Rathsman - Spring Mix

Jonas Rathsman has made an awesome "Spring mix" that you want to check out. It's filled with groovy deep house, the kind he played at our gig together, and he finishes off with the upcoming Tag Team Terror remix of "Tobago", which sounds really good.

Timo Juuti & Hector 87

Cool Italian label La Valigetta is putting out an Ep by Finnish duo Timo Juuti & Hector 87 exclusively on Beatport on March 5. La Valigetta specializes in releasing tracks made for packed, sweaty dancefloors, and this release is no different. The Ep is called "Woo Chicks & Disco Wobbles", and I have to say I like the disco more than the wobbles (you know we are allergic to dubstep), but these guys never let the wobbles get in the way of the great disco flow.

Timo Juuti & Hector 87 hails from Northern Finland, where the natives say Santa Claus is coming from. Maybe that's why they are kind enough to give away preview versions of the whole EP, including awesome remixes by PHNTM, Ghosts of Venice (happy birthday bro) and J Paul Getto.

Be sure to upgrade these preview 192 kbps versions to high-quality versions when the EP drops. You know you want to be able to crank these bad boys up.

Childish Gambino + Justin Faust + Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver

Last weekend Justin Faust played in São Paulo, Brazil. We weren't jealous at all. Who would like to go from a wintery Northern Europe to sunny summer Brazil. Where they're famous for ogrish looking girls, yucky drinks, horrible football and just uptight and boring people in general. We say no way, José.

Justin, we guess, is celebrating his return to the colder hemisphere by giving away a free remix made by Discotexas colleagues Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver:

The Finnish duo Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver is responsible for this EP, remember?

And Justin made this Ep last year:

Justin also recently made this little remix for Childish Gambino. Also as free Download!

The Magician - Magic Tape 20

The Magician has dropped his February mixtape: Magic Tape 20. Let the speculation begin on what's on it, chances are you'll be listening a lot to most of the tracks. Follow the debate on his Soundcloud page.

Beyoncé + Monsieur Adi

Speaking of Monsieur Adi, it's too bad his production gig for Kylie didn't work out. For Kylie, that is.

Monsieur Adi - Fire Fire Fire EP

Yesterday saw the release of a truly great release; Monsieur Adi's "Fire Fire Fire" EP. It's been a long time in the making. Or rather, most of it has been finished for quite a while, and it's only now come to be released.

As you know we are huge fans here at Tracasseur, and one of the perks of running a music blog is that you get to know a lot of people involved with music around the world. So sometimes you'd be chatting about music, listening to unreleased or even unfinished tracks and basically forming friendships with people that you haven't even met. One guy like that is Adi Balbus, who both makes music as Monsieur Adi and run the label Technofavrik. Talented producer, nice guy, and interesting to discuss music with. In a sense I wouldn't say I knew him much better than that, but I was still shocked and moved when one day last winter he posted on his Facebook that he'd lost his mother.

Jump to last February, I got two tracks from Adi over the chat that I instantly loved. One pretty uptempo club track, and the other a slower track but with a fantastic soundscape and something etheric and emotional about it, and it seemed I listened to it on repeat for most of the spring. It would take a while before I understood that the song was made in honour of Adi's mother. Someone with a couple of credits in music history should surely know what a requiem is, even if he's not Catholic or knows Latin, but on the other hand, it says something about the song that it's obvious that it's a special song even for someone unable to connect the dots.

That's why I'm extra happy for Adi for this release, since I know it's special for him. As for me, it's one of my absolute tracks of last year, even if I omitted it from my Best of 2011 list on the technicality that it was never released. Besides, it would have been worth more than just a couple of lines on a top list.

Requiem by Monsieur Adi

As for the rest of the release, it's interesting that Adi shows a clubbier side with the title track. With its clear Daft Punk flirts on top of Adi being, you know, French, it's also interesting to compare Monsieur Adi with the legendary duo. I've always thought that Adi sounds in one way very French, but he's also always had something epic to his productions. With him making even more Daft Punk-esque club tunes, and daft Punk obviously making the Tron OST last year, it's almost as if they've switched places.

Fire Fire Fire (Radio Edit) by Monsieur Adi

Well, I'm not sure the switching places is really true. For one thing Daft Punk is teaming up with Nile Rodgers for the next album, and Monsieur Adi is a little too versatile and difficult to pin down, so I can't really see him just pushing out electro bangers.

Rodion & Khan + The C90s

Got my hands of this fine remix by the The C90s the other day. The British male duo of The C90s have remixed Rodion & Khan's "Discoteca Romana", the title track of their 5-track EP with the same name released by La Belle Records. It's fine art made by The C90s to convert the track into something more of the italo-flavoured rhytms.

Rodion & Khan - Discoteca Romana (The C90s remix) by TheC90s

The EP "Discoteca Romana" is something that you also should get your hands on, because it's a mighty fine release. Three original tracks, where "Discoteca Romana" and "Let's Motor" sticks out as two tracks to play on repeat. But "If You Wanna Get Higher" is also a solid piece! Buy the EP at Beatport.

Meet Mauvais Cliché

Stockholm meets Paris and something new very interesting is born. Mauvais Cliché is the duo consisting of Stockholm based producer Johan Emmoth aka Le Prix and vocalist Jotta Hautanen aka Yota living in Paris. Le Prix is known to regular readers of Tracasseur and Yota has been doing stuff with Lifelike, Alan Braxe, John Dahlbäck and also been a part of the duo Frankfurt Express.

Mauvais Cliché on the other hand is an electronic dance music experiment formed during 2011 by Johan and Yota. With shared interests as red wine, low price cigarettes and retro American dance music they decided to collect all ideas under one roof, which became Mauvais Cliché.

I so much love the sound in "Stop Watching Me". Love how they mix the right now fresh 90s vibe along with some 80s synths. Together with Yota's fine voice it became a hit in my ears straight away!

Also when the EP is released on the legendary label Strictly Rhythm (for example released early Armand Van Helden) we can sense something bigger in this. The EP consists of 4 tracks; the original mix along with an extended one. Then two remixes, one from always awesome Lifelike and the other one from Louie The Lion. We got you two of the goodies down below and you can buy the whole EP at iTunes or Beatport.

Whitney! ♥

One of the greatest female pop icons has left us way to early. Whitney Houston was found yesterday at a hotel in Beverly Hills. Always so sad when great people leave us way too early. The world is in chock and will probably be for a while

She was a real star! Whitney won 6 Grammys, sold more than 170 million records and she was also called "The Voice". That probably says it all. So today we will make our homage by collecting some Whitney remixes and a classic 12".

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (12" Dance Remix) (192 kbps)

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (Van Hooft & Forever Kid Remix) (128 kbps)

Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (OCD Automatic Remix) (320 kbps)

Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (This Guy I Know Remix) (320 kbps)

Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman (Vandalism Remix) (320 kbps)

Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill (Freemason's Club Remix) (320 kbps)

And as an extra Whitney bonus, we got this Gabriell track with vocal samples from The Voice herself!

And just to prove that her voice was something extraordinary!

Tracasseur Exclusive: New EP from Keenhouse

On March 5 (Beatport) and March 13 (worldwide) LA producer Keenhouse will be back with a new EP on Sunlinxx Records entitled "Better Days". Apparently the days have been so good so Mr Keenhouse has included not one, but two tracks called "Better Days", with the obvious goal to double the goodness. And good they, indeed, are. I really, really like how he has transformed his sound from a softer more dreamwave sound, to a deeper garage sound. Don't get me wrong, I liked him before, but I think I like this even better. Apart from the two "Better Days" tracks there will be two more originals, called "Skyscrapers" and "Release Me".

Here's "Better Days (1)":

Better Days (1) by Keenhouse

And here is the, in my opinion, better "Better Days" that we are happy to be able to give away exclusively as a free download!

Electronic Rumors Volume 1

Our colleague Clive over at Electronic Rumors is branching out by releasing a compilation next week, aptly called Volume 1. You see a lot of blogs crossing over to "the other side" (I wouldn't call it dark side though), with French Express and Binary being recent and illustrious examples. It's a pretty natural step in a way; you get a lot of unsigned music sent to you, and you could easily, with your (hopefully) great music taste, pick out a few favourites, and ask a few contacts you've (hopefully) made to pitch in. That said, of course there's a lot of work with a release like this, so we take our hats off for "Crash" for making this happen.

So, is it any good? Well, how about Diamond Cut remixing Fear of Tigers? Ride the Universe featuring Jane Hanley from Kids at Midnight? Cosmonaut Gretchko, Ronika, Queen of Hearts remixed by StardonE, Beaumont, Short Circuit remixed by NightWaves?

The list goes on, so you realize it's pretty obvious it is pretty darn good. You'll get a feel for it through Ride the Universe's minimix of the release:

Both the digital and cd release is Monday, February 13 on Ninth Wave Records, but if you're in London on Friday you have the chance to celebrate the release at the free release party hosted by Human Error at 93 Feet East in Brick Lane. Here's the flyer:

Tracasseur Exclusive: Katzenwaffe

Our fellow bloggers over at Disco Demons made a guide for contacting music bloggers the other day (an article that actually more people within the music business should read). After this post we got a fantastic email, correct in all aspects and with this hilarious touch in it. Of course it caught our eyes in the overfull inbox of Tracasseur.

Katzenwaffe stepped in to our living room with a fantastic new track that he wanted to give us and our readers exclusively, and not only that, for free too! What a guy, this Katzenwaffe!

But who is this Katzenwaffe?! He's a Swede, named Martin Carlson, besides producing he's also a graphic designer. His music genre is placed somewhere around electro, pop and disco. This exclusive track is also making him the slave of the arpeggio.

I like what I hear in "Slave to the Arpeggio" and I hope you do so too! And I told you earlier that his approach was extraordinary in many ways, and I love this quote that he wrote in the email conversation and that will finish off this exclusive post perfectly:

"Unfortunately today you can understand that the focus lies within the dubstep, that is supposed to be the shit. But when even your mother knows that Skrillex is a cool kid, you also know that the dubstep era soon will come to an end. Thanks for that!"

Arthur Russell + Estate

Minneapolis trio Estate has made a really awesome remix of Arthur Russell's "That's Us/Wild Combination". It's a nice original, and I love the funkiness and that slow constant build-up they've added.

Do Me To the Music w/ Jonas Rathsman

This Saturday it's time for the next Do Me To The Music. This time we are very happy to have booked our first Swedish act: upcoming house star Jonas Rathsman. We're happy because we love his deep, soulful music, and that we are the first to bring him to Stockholm. Plus, we can only assume he'll very soon be touring around the world with Avicii as his warm-up, and by then he'll be beyond our budget. We know that Jonas is working on new original material, and that there is a remix EP of Tobago coming out pretty soon, so stay tuned!

For Saturday we're giving away two spots on the guestlist to those two who come up with the best reason as to why they deserve them. So mail us at tracasseur@gmail.com and we'll see you Saturday!

Grouplove + Gigamesh

Speaking of Gigamesh in the last post, here's a brand new remix he's done for Grouplove. The summery vibe is really appreciated since the cold and snow finally decided to hit Stockholm. Don't forget to check out the first instalment of our exclusive Guest Tape series he did for us - Jonny is updating it with fancy artwork as we speak!

Grouplove - Tounge Tied (Gigamesh Remix) by GIGAMESH

Tracasseur Guest Tape #1: Gigamesh

We have come up with an equally bold and brilliant new concept at Tracasseur. The idea is to once a month ask a DJ or producer that we like to make a (wait for it...) mixtape for us! Here I'll give you a second to collect your blown mind. Yes, it's something no one has ever come up with before, and we expect Pulitzers and Nobel prizes raining over us very soon.

Why a mixtape you ask? Well, most of the music we post is more or less dance music, and dance music works best in mixes where the often boring intros and outros are jelled together to make something new and fresh. It's also a good way to share music that we otherwise wouldn't be able to share. The labels or producers might be weary of their new music being leaked, and in that case working it into a mix is a much nicer way to share it than posting short snippets on Soundcloud for example.

The great honour of making the first mix in this series has been bestowed upon Minnesota producer Gigamesh. He had a great last year with the release of his awesome self-titled début EP, of which the track "People" is an absolute monster that was on the shortlist of my Best of 2011 list. He's also a member of the great DiscoTech and Señor Stereo crews. So let kick the Guest Tape series off with this groovy disco/house mix from Gigamesh!
