Tracasseur Guest Tape #7: Frederique

Wow, we're really pounding out these Guest tapes, aren't we? Since we, and especially me, really like the UK sound so much, what could be more logical than to ask a German with a French name to do the next one? Hannover DJ and producer Frederique has a very wide range of mostly British music styles ranging from (real) dubstep via bass to house music as evidenced in this little musical journey that he's kindly hammered together for us.

Before we get to the mix,  I think you should check out some freebies and upcoming releases:

And without further ado:

Tracasseur Guest Tape #6: Kings of the Universe

Here's the last instalment of our "monthly mixtape thing" series called Tracasseur Guest Tapes. I already commented the "monthly" description when we posted the last one a little over a month ago. Of course you don't get rid of such a quippy byline, but I guess we could put the word monthly within quotation marks or something.

We have written about Stockholm duo and friends Kings of the Universe before. We really like their production of retro acid house, and I even put their Mercury remix on my Best of 2013 list. This mix is made by Funky Loffe (Mr. Givenchy tee) on a setup with two CDJ800s and two SL1200s, and basically is a collection of their favourite tracks of 2013. A KOTU Best of 2013 of sorts. Take it away Loffe!

Here's the tracklist:

Jamie O'Reilly - F*ck All Y'all (Funk Butcher Remix)
Henrik Bergqvist - Spin
Murat Tepeli - Forever (Prosumer's Hold Me Touch Me Remix)
James Johnston - What You Do To Me
SE62 - True Force
ItaloJohnson - Untitled B1 [ITJ07]
Serge & Tyrell - Pump-O-Matic
Leon Vynehall - Step Or Stone (Breath Or Bone)
George FitzGerald - Every Inch (Deetron Remix)
Jovonn - Garage Shelter (Tuff City Kids Remix)

Tracasseur Guest Tape #3: DJ Nibc

Some slow posting lately, and the last post over a week ago. You guys must wonder what the hell we're doing; are we quitting the blogging game? Fear not, we have both just been super busy with our respective day jobs (fighting crime and ending world hunger). A guy who must have wondered the same is Swedish Berlin expat Fredrik Nyberg who had this mix ready almost a month ago (sorry Fredde). As DJ Nibc he makes deep and vibey house music cool enough for guys like Mercury to remix. With his label Trunkfunk he's also pumping out great, often Swedish, music. Which is cool since the music import, especially when it comes to deep house, usually goes the other way.

Tracklist:
1. Inner City - Share My Life (Kenny Larkin Detroit mix) - 6 x 6 Records
2. Andrés - New For U - La Vida
3. Urban Soul - I Got This Feeling (Sankt Göran Remix) - The Free Spirit Society
4. Newtimers - January Love (Dj Nibc Remix) - Rec Rec
5. Omar S And Ob Ignitt - Wayne County Hill Cops - FXHE Records
6. Machinedrum - No Respect - Lucky Me
7. B.Traits - Fever (Eats Everything Remix) - Digital Soundboy
8. Chris Malinchak - There I Was - French Express
9. Makam - Good To You - Dekmantel
10. Dj Nibc & Patrick L feat Andreas Cavaco - Call Me (Dj Nibc 'Reality Check' Dub) - Trunkfunk Records
11. Session Victim - Good Intentions - Retreat
12. Redshape - On Da Floor - Running Back
13. Green Velvet - Answering Machine (Chicago Connection Mix) - Cajual Records
14. Tom Taylor And Gareth Whitehead - Tired Of Being Wrong - Poker Flat Recordings
15. Dj Nibc & Hans Berg - Teufelsberg Safari

"Call Me" from late last year is still a huge track; you need to check it out if you haven't. Nibc's own version, included in the mixtape, plus the Mercury and Tiger Stripes remixes are my faves.

Another fave is his remix of Jonas Rathsman's band Uniforms' "March Of No Coincidence".

Tracasseur Guest Tape #1: Gigamesh

We have come up with an equally bold and brilliant new concept at Tracasseur. The idea is to once a month ask a DJ or producer that we like to make a (wait for it...) mixtape for us! Here I'll give you a second to collect your blown mind. Yes, it's something no one has ever come up with before, and we expect Pulitzers and Nobel prizes raining over us very soon.

Why a mixtape you ask? Well, most of the music we post is more or less dance music, and dance music works best in mixes where the often boring intros and outros are jelled together to make something new and fresh. It's also a good way to share music that we otherwise wouldn't be able to share. The labels or producers might be weary of their new music being leaked, and in that case working it into a mix is a much nicer way to share it than posting short snippets on Soundcloud for example.

The great honour of making the first mix in this series has been bestowed upon Minnesota producer Gigamesh. He had a great last year with the release of his awesome self-titled début EP, of which the track "People" is an absolute monster that was on the shortlist of my Best of 2011 list. He's also a member of the great DiscoTech and Señor Stereo crews. So let kick the Guest Tape series off with this groovy disco/house mix from Gigamesh!
