Jonas' best of 2014

2014 has come to an end. So it's time for the highlight of the year when we give you our personal top 20 tracks along with the Spotify Best of list (will be out in 1–2 weeks after this post).

My year in music has partly been that we all three at Tracasseur have had a lot in our personal lives that has made the blog more calm the last months. We are sorry for that, but we promise a fresh start in 2015 with a new design of the blog to be released soon and some other new interesting ideas. Stay tuned!

The other part has of course been the music, the music that I love so much. This year has once again given us some really great stuff. Even if other things goes on in your life making the time for music less, I always keep the music close to my heart and it also fills it wich such joy. Music is fantastic in many ways.

During 2014 I could also really sense the comeback of nu-disco and in 2015 I think the nu-disco will be back bigger than it has been in a couple of years. I could sense that vibe in the choice of my top tracks this year: almost every track in my top 20 list has vocals!

Besides that my list this year consists of everything from super fresh acts to some really hyped ones in the charts. I hope my top 20 selection will have something for everybody :)

Enjoy my friends!

#1. Eelke Kleijn - Mistakes I've Made
A track that hit my ears late in 2014 but it hit my ears well. It has kind of been on repeat in my headphones since it found me and I haven't got tired of it even slightly. That proves to me it's an amazing tune that the Dutchman Eelke Kleijn has made and I also find it to be a well-worthy number one this year! It's a simple tune but yet so great!

#2. Gidge - You
The new Swedish duo Gidge, from Umeå up in the north, released "You" in the spring as the first track to be released from their debut album "Autumn Bells", that was out in the autumn. I love this tune how it works in two parts, where the first part just builds up an epic atmosphere and the second part picks up that atmosphere but also takes the track into another level with some pitch vocals and an even more intense and monotone beat. On repeat for 8 minutes x many times = A lot of atmospheric hours!

#3. David Keno, ME & her - Walking Boots
A superb collaboration between David Keno and the the two soul-sisters ME & her. "Walking Boots" is one of my most played tracks out in the clubs in 2014. The reason is of course a kick-ass track! Perfect vocals along with a perfect deep and techy sound.

#4. Eagles For Hands - Handprints
This track from Eagles For Hands speaks for itself. Just take a listen and you will like it a lot, another listen and you're hooked and after the third listen you will love it! That was kind of how "Handprints" got into me. Now it's your turn, if you haven't heard it before of course.

#5. Kleerup feat. Susanne Sundfør - Let Me In
The Swedish music genius Kleerup has been doing other musical projects for a while and he has also been producing the music to the dystopian space epos "Aniara". But when he returned as Kleerup himself he made it with a new BANG! His mini-album "As If We Never Won" was as good as we hoped and there were a few nice collaborations on it. The best one was with the Norwegian super-woman Susanne Sundfør, who has been everywhere for the last two years. Kleerup and Sundfør together was the dynamic duo that I was looking for! A double BANG!

#6. Oliver $ and Jimi Jules - Pushing On
Another great collaboration, this time between German based Oliver $ and Swiss based Jimi Jules. These two have worked together before and with "Pushing On" they wanted to do a new great collaboration. By using the great vocals from The Quantic Soul Orquestra along with a sound that reminds me of some tropical vibes connecting with classic deep Chicago house.

#7. SRTW - We Were Young (Sascha Kloeber Remix)
Sascha Kloeber made this wonderful deep remix of the mysterious act SRTW. I haven't been able to find the original anywhere, so maybe this is the original then I suppose because even SRTW points to this version. No matter what, it's a really nice tune with smooth vocals.

#8. NONONO - Like The Wind (D. Lissvik Remix)
I always say that Dan Lissvik is a mastermind and every year he proves me right with whatever he takes on. His productions of other acts, his own projects like new great Atelje (check it out!) and his own remixes like this one of NONONO. Everything is always golden! Golden Lissvik!

#9. Röyksopp feat. Jamie Irrepressible - Here She Comes Again
This year Röyksopp toured with Robyn. They also released their last studio album in the old style format. Smart thing they also did was to put this great tune on their album. Many people think their greatest track from the album was with Robyn but I'm holding this one with Jamie McDermott from The Irrepressibles a bit higher.

#10. Chi Thanh - Hotel DAmour
First tune on the list without vocals. This tune doesn't need any vocals when you got the multi-instrumentalist Chi Thanh to serve you music as sweet as "Hotel DAmour" for example.

#11. Jetlag feat. Esther - Walk With Me (Martin Roth Remix)

#12. Above & Beyond feat. Alex Vargas - Sticky Fingers (Lane 8 Remix)

#13. Xinobi - Polana

#14. Lilly Wood & The Prick - Prayer In C (Robin Schulz Remix)

#15. Tapesh & Dayne S - How I Do

#16. Da Lukas - Right Thing! (Club Mix)

#17. Jessie Ware - Tough Love (Cyril Hahn Remix)

#18. Joyce Muniz feat. Bam - Back In The Days

#19. Apollo 84 feat. Hannah Jacques - Catch the Feeling

#20. GusGus - Crossfade (Maceo Plex Mix)

Röyksopp - Something In My Heart (feat. Jamie Irrepressible)

Röyksopp's "Running To The Sea" with Susanne Sundfør has been a favourite since I first heard it on Norwegian television. Tomorrow Röyksopp will release it along with a new fave as the B-side. This new gem features singer Jamie McDermott from the ten-man-band The Irrepressibles. His voice has always been a beauty and now it marries together with the sweet sounds of Röyksopp. Buy your copy with these two stunning tunes November 25 over at iTunes.

Röyksopp feat. Erlend Øye – Poor Leno (The Regroove Edit by Selector Retrodisco)

"Poor Leno" is one of Röyksopp's classic tunes, where Erlend Øye takes care of the vocals, that goes all the way back to 2001 from their debut album "Melody A.M.". Often older tracks like this becomes forgotten due to so much new music created every day around the world. But sometimes people like Selector Retrodisco kicks life into a classic like this, once in a while. Really like what he have done with "Poor Leno". A bit of groovier sound along with an extended intro, but yet only minor changes made to the original. A version more up to date in other words!

Mighty fine new gems from Röyksopp

Our beloved Norwegian duo Röyksopp are about to hit us with a new mighty fine tune named "Running to the Sea" featuring Susanne Sundfør. They performed it live on NRK's Lydverket November 28.

I always get excited when I can hear new material from Röyksopp, because they have been one of the most talented electronic bands for the last decade. Exploring around with guest artists creating more pop sounds on "Junior" into making the album "Senior" with a more instrumental and more experimenting approach.

Love this new tune from them and also loving the interesting voice of Susanne Sundfør. Music and vocals married together very well! The track is only out in Norway so far, but will soon be released into the world. Here you can buy it in the Norwegian iTunes if you live in Norway.

On the same show night at Lydverket the new collaboration also performed an awesome cover version of Depeche Mode's "Ice Machine".

Coupons

D.I.S.C.O. Texas is a great Portuguese label. The roster include the likes of Moullinex, Xinobi and Rockets along with new signings Justin Faust and most recently Australian duo Coupons. I had no idea about the addition of Coupons until very recently, but that's great news both for them and the label. I've been keeping an eye on them for a while and approached them for an exclusive mixtape a while back. Now it's here, and it has been worth the wait. The tracklist is awesome, not least because of all the unreleased Coupons tracks.

We'll have reasons to write more about Coupons in the future. Not least when we can get our hands on that fantastic "Unreleased #3" track on the mixtape! In the meantime, fan them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Get "Senior" with Röyksopp

Norwegian masterminds of Röyksopp are back with the album "Senior". This album is the instrumental follow-up of last year's more intense "Junior". They say themselves that the "Senior" album got that "autumn feeling" whilst "Junior" had the "spring feeling". On "Junior" almost every track was featured by a vocalist, for example Robyn, Lykke Li and Karin Dreijer (Fever Ray & The Knife) now it's 100% instrumental.

Another thing about this new release is that they recorded it at the same time as "Junior" and they wanted it to be more mature and introspective. The atmospheric feeling they deliver with "Senior" is different from many other things they do in one way but on the other hand it's right up their alley. "Röyksopp Forever" from "Junior" is kind of close to the sound of "Senior" even if it's more dramatic. And we all know the depths of Röyksopp's great music knowledge and talent.

They've got that magic touch and have been with us for ten years now and still renew themselves with every new release. And they keep impressing us all the time, when we thought they reached the top of their career, they create something mind blowing and continues to climb on with their journey upwards until they reach the clouds and get to sit right next to God himself.

"Senior" will be released tomorrow September 13, but until then you can pre-listen the whole album down below and pre-order it here. Down below are also three tracks as mp3:s from the album, where I got my favourite one in "The Fear".

Röyksopp - The Fear

Röyksopp - Coming Home

Röyksopp - The Alcoholic

Here's a kind of odd but yet fantastic short film with the tracks from "Senior" included. Enjoy "Röyksopp's Adventures in Barbieland".

And as a bonus, "This Space" will not be included on the release. It was released earlier this year as "Track of the Month" for free at Röyksopp's site and it's a pearl.

Swedish Queen of Pop: Robyn

Michael Jackson was the King of Pop and Madonna was the Queen of Pop back in the days and now they say that Lady GaGa is today's Queen of Pop. I could definitely argue about that for long but until that argument sets off I will stick to that our amazing Robyn is the Swedish Queen of Pop.

To show the world that she is, she will release three mini-albums named "Body Talk" this year. The first one is out now "Body Talk Pt. 1" and it shows how multi-talented Robyn is. If the two other albums hold the same quality it's going to be Robyn's year big time. Buy "Body Talk Pt. 1" on CD here or digital here.

There are some of the tracks on the album that needs some comments. After last years hit "The Girl and the Robot" together with Röyksopp it was time for them to give it all up for Robyn. "None of Dem" is a new collaboration between Röyksopp and Robyn.

Robyn feat. Röyksopp - None of Dem

Diplo is helping out on "Dancehall Queen" and also made a remix of I Blåme Coco's "Caesar" where Robyn features. More on I Blåme Coco to come...

Robyn - Dancehall Queen

I Blåme Coco feat. Robyn - Caesar (Diplo Remix)

"Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do" is a track that got some sounds that reminds me of her latest album. Really dig this track, it's good electro from Sweden.

Robyn - Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do

The greatest track on "Body Talk Pt. 1" is "Dancing On My Own" and it was also released as a single to the album. It has been around in the blogosphere for a while now with reason. Some of our favourite remixers have also contributed with some splendid remixes of this track. Fred Falke and Rex the Dog are guys that got the well-earned respect of Tracasseur.

Tracasseur one year anniversary

Hip hip hooray! Today it's exactly one year since Tracasseur's first post saw the sun, it was about the Belgian duo Aeroplane. Other acts that was up on Tracasseur in the beginning was The Golden Filter and Fear of Tigers. So already from the beginning there was some good quality of music passing through Tracasseur and further on to you guys. We have been writing about all kinds of music this year, everything from obscure italo via nu disco to the housiest house.

During the year that has passed we have also developed the blog. In the beginning we used MediaFire to share the music but since last summer we have our own server with the great music. It makes downloading faster. At the same time we introduced our preview player that was one of the big wishes from our readers, and for a while ago we even pimped it further.

We also believe that we have gained more experience in writing. And we also believe that the quality of Tracasseur has gained and still does. One of the things we can point to is the increase of visitors. An increase that isn't slowing down at all, and for that we love our readers and promise to keep our good work up for a long long time, because; Tracasseur is here for you!

Thanks for all the comments, the sharing, the support and the love-talk during the year, thank you! And keep coming back to us with your music, your point of views and especially the love-talk...

Big love from Tracasseur to all our readers!!!

Junior Boys - Birthday

Filipsson & Lindblad - Happy Birthday Day Jef

DJ Pozsi - Happy Birthday (Breaks Remix)

Just another Midsummer's Eve

Today is Midsummer's eve: a very important pre-christian holiday for Swedes, but evidently it is celebrated all around the world from Canada to southern Brazil. Who would have known that.

Anyway I really don't like traditional Swedish summer songs so I decided to post my favourite productions by Joakim instead. Maybe you think he is Swedish or Norwegian but he is in fact French. I've seen him live twice and he has a truly unique sound, something similar to Lindstrom and that nu disco electro wave. So I say to you in Swedish: "Glad Midsommar!!"

Tracasseur & DW in Romania

As we have mentioned earlier, Tracasseur paid a visit to Iasi in Romania to play records April 4th. We travelled along with our friends in the band DW, who we have written about before. DW played live and we took care of flipping records.

No one of us five lads had ever been to Romania before, so it was quite an adventure for all of us. Before we left Sweden everybody was making jokes about vampires and Dracula, but the thing is that we never saw anything of that, except on a poster for a museum. Instead we had a blast and experienced a new country for us in a fantastic way. Nice friendly people, and special thanks to the great hospitality and treatment from Flama Events and J&B.

The gig was on the roof of the Moldova Mall in the centre of Iasi. About 1.000 people attended the party called “Start A Party”, and it was a great party! DW did their live-set with success, before Jonny Puma and Arnie Becker took care of the dancing roof. Here is a mish-mash video from our dj-set:

And here are some of the nice tunes that we played during the night (some of them posted before, but hey, they are great tracks, so we can post them again):

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Russ Chimes Remix)

Röyksopp - The Girl And The Robot

Super Society - Our Love (Donna)

Testarossa - Monte Carlo (Dazed Dub)

Teenage Bad Girl – Ghost House

Robin Gibb - Juliet (CatComplex Remix)

Drlkt Freddie – Airtight

Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me (Grum Remix)
