The return of Basement Jaxx

New track from the classic Brixton, London duo Basement Jaxx! It will be included on their new album, still untitled and still being mastered, due to be released sometime around May or June.

There will be a lot of great guest vocalists on the album, among others Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Santogold and even Yoko Ono. Sam Sparro has also been hinting that he's working with them.

We hope our Swedish readers make sure to check them out when they visit Way Out West in Gothenburg this summer.

Basement Jaxx - Raindrops

It's good, but it doesn't reach the heights of this classic samba house track from '97:

I think it's good, not great. Sounds more Basement Jaxx anno 2000 (read "Romeo"), which is not entirely good but not entirely bad. But I know I have a soft spot for them since you can't underestimate what they've done for house music. But I guess they're not cutting edge any more, and that's a shame innit?

I'm not sure a group or a song can be written off for not being cutting edge. Raindrops is a brilliant must-play song for any hot club. It leaves so many remix opportunities, DJ's will be having fun with this one all summer. That aside, the track has a feeling of being composed in the sense of a great orchestral piece. I say well done Basement Jaxx! We're glad to have you back!
