Kites, oh Kites!

Discovered Kites early this summer and was about to make a grand post about this fine British band. That didn't happen, because I was overwhelmed by such a grand music instead of making the post. But now it's Kites time!

Where should we start? As mentioned Kites are from London and consists of four fine members, Matthew, Richard, Jack and Jasper. The quartet haven't been around as a four-piece for that long but yet they have released a bunch of tracks, in matter of fact two EPs and a remix EP. And now they're here with a new single named "Brother". The track is a melancholy story of two brothers, whose fates are interwoven throughout the song in a tapestry of fear and hope. One brother is at the end of his journey; the other is only just embarking. And they've shot a video with film-maker George Harvey (i:D Magazine, GQ Magazine) that will premiere at Kites' site within a week. We get back to you with that track and the video shortly and instead start out with the B-side "Art Tastes Better Blind". Fantastic track that really summarize what Kites is all about.

Art Tastes Better Blind by Kites

As you can hear, the influences and how Kites sound like, remind you partly of the 80s new wave and pop scene. They've been compared with classic acts like Talking Heads, OMD, Ultravox and New Order but I also think they could be put in the same field as modern acts like Patrick Wolf and Hurts. Love the 80s-like voice of Matthew Phillips. Get to know the voice in these two tracks available for download.

Kites - The Disappearance of Becky Sharp (256 kbps)

Kites - You Are Dead (To Me) (320 kbps)

And already by now you probably are in love with Kites and want more of their fine gems. Try some of the best ones from their latest EP, and also observe that Kites aren't only gazing back in time with their sound, I would rather say that they are the modern inheritors of 80s new wave that they combine with the indie electro of today. That make you love their sound!

And there has also been a remix project, where a bunch of producers have remixed some carefully selected tunes of Kites. Of the nine remixed tracks in the project, I must say that all of them is really really good, but I've picked my favourites here below.

Kites - The Disappearance of Becky Sharp (The Sanfernando Sound Remix) by Kites

Kites - The Disappearance of Becky Sharp (Tribal Riot Remix) by Kites

Kites - Black Dog (Kontraband Remix) by Kites

Kites - The Seamstress (Modern Manners Remix) by Kites

Find even more from Kites over at their SoundCloud, in other words, the rest of the tracks from the remix project and all their earlier tracks and even "Brother" if you want to take a sneak preview before the release of the video. And here you can find them over at the well known Facebook.
