Growing old with French dream pop

Today the French dream pop duo Schaatz wished me a Happy New Year by telling me that I'm going to age along with their new remix of Digits. I laughed when I realized that it's only the truth. However, I didn't laugh listening to their new remix, it's once again a handy craftsmanship created by these guys, who lived in the Alps once. Maybe it was the air of the Alps that made them create these fine harmonies or maybe it's the fact that they also are growing old...

Sir Lancelot's Dj Tools #1

Hello guys and dolls! This is my first post this year, hope you enjoyed Tracasseur's "Best of 2009" lists. I've had an excellent NYE, with lots of oysters, champagne, fireworks and beautiful women around me. That's what she said...no really!

Here are some of my 12" vinyl records I've transferred especially for you. Hope you enjoy them and btw I don' think you will find these anywhere else in the blogosphere. They are all in 320kbit/s. Sir Lancelot says enjoy!

Cassius - La Mouche (played live by DJ Falcon)
La Mouche means The Fly and you can hear the buzzing sound all the way through. I've played this at Spy Bar last week and the crowd went crazy.

Les Rythmes Digitales - Music Makes You Loose Control (Remix)
This version is so hard to find. Love the build-up in it. Met LRD in NY back in -98 when he was still a brat and not producing Madonna.

The Mighty Bop - Too Deep
Deep and heavy jazzy tune. Very 2002...

The Mighty Bop - Fantasia
If you didn't like the other one maybe you like this.

Basement Jaxx - Samba Magic
Indeed pure magic!

Basement Jaxx - Eu Nao
Also another song I played at my last gig. Amazing response for this classic.

The Migrants (Play Paul) - I Thought That (Jules Spinner Tweaked Remix)
From 2005, so we're getting closer present time. Love the tweakin' sound in the middle.

Serial Crew - Need U (Muttonheads Remix)
One of the producers is Demon Ritchie from the old school house scene. This track is also from 2005.

As the Night Rolls On

This track is not that new, but it's Flashmen's latest one and it's great. So when we got a superb remix of this track by Brooklyn-based Jemex it was time for "As the Night Rolls On" to get some blog-time.

I have already written about Flashmen (also from Brooklyn) in August last year when I praised their "Little Wildkat" and I feel a little bit of shame leaving them out of my "Best of 2009" list with that fantastic tune. We were also among the first blogs to post their remix of Visitor's "Los Feeling". And these two guys behind Flashmen are going to have a blast in 2010, I believe. Their journey have just begun, 2010 could be "the year of the Flashmen". So when summing up the best tracks of 2010 I will definitely have a Flashmen track on it.

Jemex have had a lot of fine remixes out in 2009, among the artists remixed you find TV Off, Autokratz and Madison Avenue. The EP "Square 1" released in June is out on iTunes and Amazon where Jemex is featured by Dean Gray.

Here are the original "As the Night Rolls On" by Flashmen featuring Sewingpattern (named Guitar Edit), the Jemex remix and also the other remixes made of this track.

As a bonus; the Jemex remix of "Little Wildkat".

Nothing Ever Ends

That's the title of the new single released by Håkan Ludvigson together with ALX002 and Cedar M in December on Kant Recordings. It's melodic tech-house as it's best. To buy the whole single with remixes of Eric Ericksson and Over8 head over to Beatport or Juno.

Håkan is definitely one of Sweden's most prominent producers in that genre and have been that for quite a while now. He's been playing on a lot of clubs in Asia and have released several remixes and tracks both in Europe and in the US. Now he's working on his first full-length techno album. You should also check out his own record labels Clubstream and Substream for more techno, tech-house and electro-pop.

GFR003 - Le Prix

The third release for our friends at the 80s italo label Girlfriend Records is now out. This time it's actually one of our closest friends in the nu italo business; Le Prix. He has once again created a well flavoured italo sound that seems like taken from a 80s road trip along the coast of the western US.

Girlfriend Record's head of chief, great Sferro himself, has made the remix to the B-side. He told us that he wasn't that satisfied because making it in only one night, due to the release today. But I have to disagree with him totally, because I think it's a superb remix.

Then you just have to give all your love to Le Prix and of course to Girlfriend Records, who always give away their releases for free. And because it's free, it's not bad, it's instead awesome nu italo delivered to you. Be grateful!

A little more Le Matos

Great Canadians Le Matos, that made both mine and Arnie's lists of the best tracks of 2009, have been remixed by their fellow mate Elektro-boy. As Elektro-boy aka Cristóbal Cortes describes the remix of the classic Le Matos track: "Elektro-boy has once again opened the gates of hell...". It's a heavenly good remix straight out of hell, if I should describe it.

Le Matos - Like Perfume on a Pig (Elektro-boy Gates of Hell Remix)

Le Matos themselves made a remix not so long ago of Delphic's "This Momentary" that somehow slipped my radar. Maybe I was drunk that day or something, because I can't really understand how I could have missed out on this phenomenal remix. As compensation I share it with you guys, together with the original track.
