So, I don't know if you've heard or not, but there is this French Kanye cover band called
Daft Punk that are apparently coming out with an album pretty soon, and a new single, called "Get Lucky" even sooner. So soon, in fact, that Amazon today published
the listing for it. Obviously there are a million unofficial versions and remixes out already, but can this be a crappy 128 kbps version of the actual Radio Edit? Even if the length matches Amazon's listing, and it sounds a lot like the sound-bites we've already heard (to death), there's no way to be sure. Is it really Pharrell's voice and Nile Rodgers' guitar playing? You be the judge.
We also trust you
not to download this thing as you risk ending up as cell mates with
Gottfrid Svartholm (he seems nice though) if you do. On the other hand, if you're really a DP fan, you'd want to buy the real deal when it gets out anyway.
So, what do we make of it? Is it really the best human achievement since toasting sliced bread on a rotating wheel over open fire? Well, no.
In a way it's against our principles to jump on the Daft Punk hype bandwagon, but then again it's hard to dodge one of the most hyped up releases coming up - it just becomes a hotly discussed piece of current affairs. Obviously Daft Punk are a hugely important band, but I'd say it's more because of their cultural influence rather than their musical influence. The huge feat of Daft Punk is that they managed to reach a whole new audience outside the mostly European electronic dance music fans, and that truly is a great achievement. On the other hand, it wouldn't have come about without Kanye. And although all three of their albums have been great, the first two were better than the third, so they have to reinvent themselves to stay on top. And doing funky disco the thing that will make them stay on top? I'm not too sure. For the nu disco fans of the blogging community, I think "Get Lucky" would have made more sense a couple of years ago. On the other hand, for the not yet raptured, making high-quality but mainstream cross-over R'n'B dance tracks for the American market, it's a whole lot better than the Swedish House Mafias and Guettas that we have to suffer through today.
Am I being too grumpy? Maybe, and I'd gladly be proven wrong.
Yep, got my hands on the hyped and discussed soundtrack by Daft Punk to the sequel of Tron from 1982. Tron Legacy will premiere around this Christmas. We had a couple of previews from the soundtrack back in July along with the trailer, and it sounded really nice and promising.
That Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk are the creators of the soundtrack music to Tron Legacy (premiere December 17, 2010) haven't really been any news to anyone for a long time. But there have been fake tracks out there claiming being part of the soundtrack to the follow-up of classic Tron from 1982. These tracks below are confirmed as being on the official Tron Legacy site.
Our friend Amy from TEEN has come up with a new track "Face Down Ass Up" and a new remix of Daft Punk's "Too Long". As always she makes good productions and it's always fun to hear some classic Daft tracks being remixed. Keep up the good work TEEN!
As you probably know Daft Punk are currently working on the soundtrack to the upcoming "Tron Legacy" movie. Towards the end of last year a couple of tracks from the soundtrack supposedly leaked out on the internet which didn't exactly made people looking forward to the movie and its soundtrack any less. From the get-go they were surrounded by some uncertainty whether they were actually made by Daft Punk or not and it came as little surprise when they turned out to be fakes.
It's been out for a week now, but if you haven't picked it up yet, what are you waiting for? Remix After All is a super-collaboration between ten of the greatest blogs out there, who each got a track off Daft Punk's "Human After All" with the objective of choosing their favourite remixer to do a remix of the track. The result is a nice update of the album, with most tracks given some extra muscle, with the exceptions of Chew Fu's and Substantial's mellow saxophone accompanied version of "Make Love" and Werewolf By Night's dreamy remix of "Emotion".
It's been a while since we did a Top 10 list here, so I decided to give you some of my favourite songs for this month that I have played at bars and clubs lately. Enjoy these great songs and please support these artists, buy more of their music on beatport for example.
It hasn't happened yet, but there may come a day when I grow tired of the iDaft emulator. Therefor I'm pretty psyched that I now can take a break from it and play the new Daft Punk video game for a while.

First of all we congratulate Mats Holmberg and Stina Åkerstam for winning two cool Tracasseur t-shirts! Saturday was the night we had a kick-off party, celebrating our first three weeks on the web. Les Tracasseurs played at Spy Bar, and we thank all of you that came to support us. We can already now reveal for you that there will be a MAJOR Tracasseur party in late April. Great djs from abroad plus live acts will fulfill this night, but we are still in the planning for this night of mayhem...
