ODahl - Sexual Healing

Our main Fireball whiskey supplier, and my evil twin, ODahl's latest track is a step away from the nu disco towards a deeper sound, and I'm loving it. At the same time it makes me remember the track that really caught my ear from the beginning - his remix/cover of another seminal soul claasic; Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much". Great way to move forwards without forgetting where you came from.

She's The Queen + ODahl

As we reported earlier, one of our favourite blog colleagues, Electronic Rumors, has branched out by adding a record label to the job description. Now it's time for their second release in the form of New York electropop duo She's the Queen. The band consist of Drew Kuryloski and Emily White, and they make soulful dance-pop marinated in nu disco and dreamwave. Judging by their name, I'm guessing Drew is the one carrying all those heavy analogue synths to their gigs.

"Talk to Me" is a power-synth smoker in the mould of Diamond Cut or Fear of Tigers. Remix support comes from Lightwaves, Digitalfoxglove, Silenx, Embryonik, Jeremy Grasso and ODahl. It's good to see that ODahl is in good form, so we're proud to première his remix here.

ODahl update

It feels like it was ages ago we posted about ODahl, and it was actually quite a while ago. Our excuse to this, is that we actually thought he had a break from making music but it was rather the total opposite. When we talked him at the bar a couple of months ago, I got quite surprised that he was so into it. So now it's finally time to do this summary update of what Mr. ODahl been up to lately.

The latest remix was released yesterday and you can buy it over at Beatport and it can be one of ODahl's strongest so far.

During the last year he has also made a bunch of awesome remixes!

ODahl

If you're a follower of this blog, you don't need an introduction to ODahl. He's been giving away some really nice music lately. You should check it out.

ODahl - Out Of Control

So, on Monday the 14th ODahl's new EP "Out Of Control" is out on Mullet Records exclusively through Juno with the worldwide release the week after. The EP includes two original tracks, plus a remix of each track by Justin Faust and Honom. Since you already know everything there is to know about ODahl and Justin Faust, I will only say that their tracks are just as good as you'd expect. Well, I can add that I like Justin's new and more funky sound with that growling bassline, and that we are looking forward to playing with him in Sopot, Poland on April 9.

The Mullet people are kind enough to share an edit of "Just Be Easy":

The guy who needs a short introduction might be Honom. Behind the name, which means "him" in Swedish, is Sebastian Uzieblo from Gothenburg, and he's a young man with a knack of making chilled out space disco. You should check out his single "Vanilla Street" as well as his "Cosmic Beach" EP on SpaceWalker, and keep an eye out for upcoming releases on Nu Indee and Club-a-club.

Dreams

The latest Binary release is pretty darned dope. It features the collaboration of the British synthpop duo Futurecop! and Keenhouse, who is one of the main acts of the LA based label/collective. The original is a warm and sunny dreamwave tune with a chorus that is a generous dose of Prosac in sonic form.

The remix support comes from a pleasant new acquaintance in Swiss Show Your Shoe, and a couple of familiar names in super-combo Ride The Universe (Fiero + Digitalfoxglove), and our buddy ODahl, who we haven't heard from in a while. Well that last bit is not entirely true; we met in a club a few weeks back, and for some unknown but obviously completely unjustified reason Olle pinched my nose so hard that I looked like Rudolph the raindeer for almost a week, which obviously is a very dated look in January.

Pick up the excellent release on iTunes!

Binary Day

Today is Binary Day since it's the date 101010. What can be more appropriate than to check in with our friends over at Binary Entertainment? The Californian collective had a very productive summer, which sadly coincided with Tracasseur practically being down to one person (sorry about that Jonny!), so we need to do some backtracking.

LexiconDon's second single "Student Body" was the second single from the album "Pink + Blue", and it came with a gazillion of great remixes, of which we already have posted two. Here are some more along with the original:

LexiconDon - Student Body

LexiconDon - Student Body (LBCK Miniremix)

LexiconDon - Student Body (depepeguinta Remix)

LexiconDon - Student Body (Tomahawk Remix)

(Pick up "Pink + Blue" on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody or 7Digital)

A quarter of LexiconDon is producer Fabian, who makes a lot of great things on his own.

Fabian - Heatwave

Fabian - 2 AM

Fred Falke - Back to Stay (Fabian Remix)

Dragonette - Easy (Fabian Remix)

Pony Pony Run Run - Walking On A Line (Fabian Remix)

Phoenix - 1901 (Fabian Remix)

Keenhouse remixed the earlier LexiconDon track "December Sunset" instead. Plus NightWaves and Housse De Racket.

LexiconDon - December Sunset (Keenhouse Remix)

Housse De Racket - Oh Yeah! (Keenhouse Remix)

NightWaves - Fascination (Keenhouse Remix)

I'll finish off this Binary compilation with producer Alfa, who released a new track and remixes of Vim Cortez and ODahl this autumn.

Alfa - Sky Patrol

ODahl - Dance Mama (ALFA Remix) by Alfa

Vim Cortez - Givin' it up (ALFA Remix) by Alfa

Finally, if you're anywhere near the American west coast on October 15, you really should go to Tilt Magazine's three year anniversary bonanza at the Echoplex, with acts like Jamaica, NightWaves, French Horn Rebellion, Short Circuit, Parallels and more. Buy your tickets in advance for only twelve bucks here (15 at the door).

Dance Mama video

So we had a great time playing at ODahl's release party last Friday. Great music played by all the DJs, lots of Aperol drunk and the premiere of ODahl's video for "Dance Mama". So for all of you unlucky people who weren't there (and for the majority of people who couldn't see the video since the place was so packed), here it is!

The EP is still exclusive at Beatport.

The Saga of ODahl & kamp!

This is a kind of pleasant story to follow, hopefully it will continue into the future. I'm talking about the saga of ODahl & kamp!, the Swedish-Polish brotherhood between talented young men. This is the third time ODahl remixes kamp!

kamp! the electro pop troup from Poland who makes beautiful music with inspiration from the 80s as well as the modern days. Things are really about to happen for them, they just announced live-gigs in Los Angeles for example and we can also reveal that the people of Stockholm most likely will stand face to face with these three guys soon...

ODahl is the Swedish myth that exists, making fine remixes every time, not only of kamp! He also just released his debut EP a couple of weeks ago and it's climbing the charts at Beatport, get your copy of the EP here.

And here we give you ODahl's new remix of the great "Distance of the Modern Hearts" by kamp!

ODahl releases debut EP tomorrow

Good news are coming your way. The good friend of ours, ODahl are about to release his debut EP tomorrow on Velcro City Records. Followers of Tracasseur know this Swede quite well now with our regular posts about him, it was only a few days ago we posted his new fine remix of kamp!.

But now it's time for more of himself, he's done a lot of own material before but he's got most recognition of his many and great remixes of acts such as Tesla Boy, Cut Copy, Empire of the Sun, Toomy Disco, Luther Vandross and above mentioned kamp!.

In late March we got a couple of previews from ODahl on his new tracks that would be on the EP. Already back then you could sense that this was to be a fine debut EP for ODahl. Nice track "Dance Mama" sounds almost the same as back then and we loved "Hello Hello" in its original version, now star producer Diamond Cut has remixed it. What a debut!

Get your copy exclusive over at Beatport and be fans of great guy ODahl here.

ODahl + kamp! once again

Once again these two join forces. Swedish talent ODahl makes a new remix of the upcoming and superb Polish band kamp!, that are said to be the Polish Cut Copy. ODahl made a fine remix of kamp!'s "Breaking a Ghost's Heart" back in November last year, you can find the remix together with the original here.

In May we wrote about kamp!'s new single "Heats" and since then we've got a couple of remixes. But it wasn't until we got this Tracasseur exclusive from ODahl that we really felt it was time to make the post. ODahl works with these fine nuances in his remixes and that what's so great with him. We can also reveal that we've heard that ODahl is up for some more shortly...

kamp! - Heats (ODahl Remix) [Tracasseur exclusive]

Ok, then I can already tell you that I was lying a little above. We got this remix from Polish Last Robots last week, and it's also great in another kind of way and it's been on the list for posting, but the pipeline for posts right now is kind of crowded.

kamp! - Heats (Last Robots Remix)

The Zambon 82' remix is not a stupid one either. Zambon is also from Poland by the way.

New ODahl

New stuff from ODahl makes us this happy. We've been on and on about him, so if you don't know who he is, click the ODahl label below and indulge yourself. This track is more filter house than his usual stuff and might point at a new direction for his forthcoming EP. We will have reasons to come back to that soon though...

SWR001: Toomy Disco

February 22 marks the debut release of Dubai based label Space Walker Recordings. The label was set up late last year by the three friends Shawn Mac, Holic and Christian Cardwell who all have a vast amount of experience with nu-disco/indie/new wave music. They will be giving you spaced out cosmic grooves on a steady basis.

The first release is Argentinian nu disco act Toomy Disco's "Back From Cosmos". A fan of classic disco and funk he has only recently started to pursue his dream of producing music. He's so fresh in the business that he doesn't even have a MySpace page yet. The release include three original tracks remixed by Marcello Giordani, Ricky Inch and our Swedish hero ODahl.

Toomy Disco - Back From Cosmos (ODahl's Cosmic Remix)

The next release will be Swedish space disco/prog house producer Claes Rosen's "Sparkles" with remixes by Martin Virgin vs South eXpress, SPSM and Sare Havlicek.

Arnie Becker's best of 2009

So, I've tried to sum up the music year of 2009 in 15 tracks, and man oh man was that hard. Women giving birth often think that is hard. Luke Skywalker probably thought hitting that shaft on the Death Star with those torpedoes was hard. But none of that compares to having to weed down a 50 or 60 tracks long shortlist to just 15.

In the end people like Baxter, Chromeo, Neon Workout, Cassian, Lebatman, Beaumont, PH Groove, FM Attack, and Pelifics along with bigshots like Bag Raiders, Midnight Juggernauts, Lifelike and Fred Falke (and all the others I've forgot to mention) were axed. But I'll stop bitching and get right to it.

#15. Severin - The Edge of a Sunday (Breakbot Remix)
Breakbot had a huge year in 2008, but there came a couple of gems this year too. I chose the Severin remix, even if the Yuksek one also was a favourite and also could have made the list. With an album coming out in 2010, expect to hear more from France's funkiest.

Severin - The Edge of a Sunday (Breakbot Remix)

#14. Edwin Van Cleef - OvertakenEdwin van Cleef was another one who spit out excellent tracks on almost a weekly basis in late 2008 and early 2009. After some label troubles he finally released "Overtaken" on his own label this fall. Despite releasing a bunch of great remixes this was my favourite Cleef track of the year. It's just filled with such energy!

Edwin Van Cleef - Overtaken

#13. GRUM - Runaway (Calling In Sick Remix)
From Leeds to Leeds and to Van Cleef's roommate GRUM. There's a place that should have some decent music at the afterparties... Both of them manage to transform their sound beyond the trash electro à la Justice they both had come to master into something new, while not losing a bit of their star quality. GRUM made so many great remixes this year, with Friendly Fire's "Skeleton Boy" narrowly missing my chart. His own "Runaway" release was epic as well with the great original accompanied with just as great remixes. Calling in Sick's was my favourite though.

GRUM - Runaway (Calling In Sick Remix)

#12. Elke - Blue Dream Lover (Youth Remix)Elke is one of those Australian bands that really makes you realize that the success of other Australian bands like Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts, Empire of the Sun and The Presets isn't just a fluke or an undeserved hype. The music scene down under really seems to be next to infinite with great bands a dime a dozen. The incredible thing is that the electro scene seems equally big with electro DJs and producers also a dime a dozen. That's two dimes a dozen! Brisbane-based Youth's nu disco odyssey is both beautiful and danceable.

Elke - Blue Dream Lover (Youth Remix)

#11. French Horn Rebellion vs. Database - Beaches and Friends (Hey Champ Remix)
The Brazilian maximalism from São Paulo's Database made up a big part of the soundtrack to the spring. Their energetic disco edits were on high rotation and the Phyllis Hyman edit could have made the list. One track that did is Hey Champ's remix of their collaboration with French Horn Rebellion. Rockford's Cut Copy, who combines making great pop tunes with their band while making awesomely funky house remixes, continues to be one of the most underrated acts in the music world. Such a great bassline on this one.

French Horn Rebellion vs. Database - Beaches and Friends (Hey Champ Remix)

#10. Friendly Fires - Jump In The Pool (Thin White Duke Remix)I haven't listened to that much indie rock the last couple of years, but when I rarely do one of my favourite bands are indie dancers Friendly Fires. Their self-titled debut from 2008 included so many great singles which in turn resulted in even more great remixes (I've already mentioned GRUM's "Skeleton Boy"). Stuart Price aka Les Rythmes Digitales made a string of great remixes under his Thin White Duke guise. The "Jump in the Pool" remix was a match made in heaven.

Friendly Fires - Jump In The Pool (Thin White Duke Remix)

#9. Holy Ghost! - I Will Come Back (Classixx Acapulco Nights Version)
Classixx had a great year with their hit "I'll Get You" and countless terrific remixes. Their blend of ultra-cool nu disco and lo-fi house was a big influence on the sound of 2009. Their remix of Brooklyn funksters Holy Ghost! took the cake though.

Holy Ghost! - I Will Come Back (Classixx Acapulco Nights Version)

#8. Visitor - Los Feeling (Monsieur Adi Remix)
Visitor's "Los Feeling" was one of the most blogged and most remixed tracks. Fear of Tigers, Flashmen, Gentlemen Thieves, Digitalfoxglove and Wonder, Flashworx and Freak You were among those who gave it a shot and did it well. Monsieur Adi came out on top though.

Visitor - Los Feeling (Monsieur Adi Remix)

#7. Paul - I Feel Change
Paul haven't got the attention he deserves yet, despite being posted on Valérie. He stood out as one of the major renewers of the French touch scene, combining the house sound of Lifelike with more of pop music. He released a string of great tracks so picking out a favourite was hard, but given that we hadn't posted it for some reason, I chose "I Feel Change".

Paul - I Feel Change

#6. Miami Horror - Sometimes
Miami Horror reinforced his standing as one of the greatest stars of Aussie electro. Fewer remixes this year than in previous years but some great releases on his own. Like the "Bravado" EP and of course one of the most epic singles of the year, "Sometimes".

Miami Horror - Sometimes

#5. kamp! - Breaking A Ghost's Heart (ODahl Remix)
ODahl was one of our finds of the year, even if I was tipped off by a friend in Poland. His remix of Empire of the Sun's "Walking on a Dream" was a big favourite, and was close to making the list. In the end the remix of Polish band kamp! was marginally better. Something I know Olle agrees with since he's told me he thinks this is the best track he's ever done.

kamp! - Breaking A Ghost's Heart (ODahl Remix)

#4. Digitalfoxglove feat. Freak You - Beasts and Flowers
The collaboration between On The Fruit's Digitalfoxglove and Freak You resulted in one of the best intros of all time. Digitalfoxglove was one of all producers who moved away from the trashy electro sound to something else. In his case that gave him more room for his great sense for melodies and harmonies. Add Freak You's funky bass and you end up with this dancefloor stormer.

Digitalfoxglove feat. Freak You - Beasts and Flowers

#3. Coeur De Pirate - Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)
Le Matos was really one of the biggest favourites for all of us in the spring. They just had (and still have) such a unique fuse of beautiful pop melodies and pumping techno. They made a bunch of awesome remixes and tracks of their own (especially in the first part of the year), but when adding the delicate voice of Coeur de Pirate we got a track that was loved by everyone, no matter if you liked club music or not.

Coeur De Pirate - Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)

#2. Tesla Boy - Spirit Of The Night
Tesla Boy must have made one of the more meteoric rises to stardom in 2009. I was on to them by word of mouth from our eastern European connection and was immediately hooked on their blend of 80s sounding electro pop and new wave. Then they were posted by Valérie and the rest is history. The promo EP (that we daringly posted) contained five tracks that were such great pop tunes all of them, so the favourite was a close call. But in the end "Spirit of the Night" narrowly edged out "Runaway Man". Now we're all looking forward to the album which will be out early 2010.

#1. Fear of Tigers - I Can Make The Pain Disappear
Fear of Tigers really affirmed himself as one of the greatest and most innovative producers in electronic music right now. He made a couple of my all time favourite tracks in 2008 (the remix of Pnau's "With You forever" is still my top track on Last.fm), and yet the release of his debut album this fall blew my mind. He combines music from all over the place into such a unique sound. From the eighties and nineties to the naughties, from electro and house to indie, his music transcends all genres. From a whole album full of perfect tens the opening track was the eleven.

Friday night is disco night...

...so here are a couple of tracks that'll give you a tingling sensation in your legs.

First up, I have to post one more Fear of Tigers track since this is currently my favourite track from an awesome album.

Fear of Tigers - I Can Make The Pain Disappear

As you know, we love ODahl. We hadn't posted this for some reason.

ODahl - Your Arms Around Me

We also love Paul who we wrote about in August. I hope someday we'll dj together.

Paul - Someday…Together! (Link fixed!)

Passion Pit are great, but Hey Champ are greater.

Passion Pit - Little Secrets (Hey Champ Remix)

I remember last spring it seemed Le Matos was about the only thing I listened to. Great that they're back with this remix of We Have Band.

We Have Band - Honey Trap (Le Matos Remix)

Justin Faust is coming to Sweden and Gothenburg on February 6. Hope he makes the trip up to Stockholm as well. Here's a remix of Nightriders.

ODahl thinks happy thoughts

New from one of our big favourites from our hometown; the one and only ODahl. Less of his usual slick and funky nu disco house, this one's more of a pumping club track. But as good as always. Literally still warm from ODahl's CD burner, we tried it out while DJing last Wednesday, and it worked like a charm.

Cut Copy + ODahl

We've been raving about ODahl, who have been making some awesome music recently. He seems to be on a mission to remix all classic tracks that already have been remixed to death, just to show how it's done I guess. Here's his take on a Cut Copy classic. May we expect remixes of "1901", "Music Sounds Better With You", "Fancy Footwork" and "Ce Jeu" soon?

More ODahl

I wrote about ODahl a couple of days ago. Thought I'd post some more for you.

First up two of his own tracks, "Kelly..." is another slice of nu disco-house while "Autumn Anthem" is more towards electro.

ODahl - Kelly Goes Robot

ODahl - Autumn Anthem

The remix of Jay-Jay Johansson's Dee D. Jackson cover is in line with the remixes posted before...

Jay-Jay Johanson - Automatic Lover (ODahl Remix)

... While the Lil' Wayne & Birdman remix shows ODahl's versatility with a venture into the world of modern electro hip-hop/r&b.

ODahl

Got this track through my YouTube account (!) this evening. It's a remix by Stockholm producer ODahl of the evergreen Empire of the Sun single "Walking on a Dream". The great original is transformed into a track somewhere in the region between nu disco, house and electropop, complete with lovely synth strings and a bouncy bassline. A slightly unorthodox method of delivery but still a wonderful gift. And the beginning of the video seems made for posting on this blog.

Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream (ODahl Remix)

I first came across Mr ODahl via his remix of stellar soul classic Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much", which seems a logical choice of track since his soundscape seems to be influenced by the funky pop-soul of the 80's.

Luther Vandross - Never Too Much (ODahl K-Love Remix)
